Your Indoor Air Quality May Be Worse Than You Think

Monday, August 8th, 2011

You already know that outdoor pollution is a big problem, but did you know that your indoor air could be even worse? It’s not enough to be concerned about chemicals in your water, and in your beauty products;  it’s time you start worrying about the chemicals that you are breathing in your home.

While you may not realize it, a load of chemicals are present in the air in your home. The scary thing is that indoor pollution is known to cause both short term and long term health issues. Some conditions that may be caused or made worse by bad air quality in your home include headaches, colds, asthma, skin irritation, sore throat, dizziness, depression, fatigue, and many others.

Environmental Health Sciences published a study in 2009 that showed over 500 different chemicals could be identified inside your home. Several of the pollutants found in this study included pesticides, formaldehyde, asbestos, radon, heavy metals, and arsenic. You may not realize it, but paint, aerosol sprays, pest control products, dust, and even hobby supplies can send chemicals into the air, resulting in serious indoor pollution.

These chemicals in your indoor air are hazardous to adults, and even more hazardous to children. Poor indoor air quality can cause serious problems for young infants and children. Even prenatal exposure to indoor air that is full of chemicals can lead to damage to the unborn infant’s brain.

Keeping your indoor air quality clean is important. You can’t afford to deal with the serious health issues that may come along with chemicals that are found in the air in your home. Those chemicals won’t just cause health problems – they’ll make you age faster as well. For your health’s sake and to make sure you stay looking as young as possible, purchasing an air purifier for your home pays big dividends.

Clean Indoor Air Can Help You Age Slowly

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

istock_000006083061xsmall1If you live near or in a city, you are in need of air purification as part of your efforts to live younger longer. The air you intake is more polluted than ever because of second hand smoke, combustion and biological pollutants, household products, lead, radon, asbestos and formaldehyde.

With the push for homes to become even more air tight and well insulated for better energy consumption, there is an increase in the number of pollutants you inhale. Radon gas, formaldehyde emissions from carpet, plywoods and cabinets all contribute to home pollution. People who use nonstick Teflon cookware show higher levels of chemicals in their blood. Often times sheets are treated with a formaldehyde finish so checking to ensure they are untreated is well worth the effort.

Using too many disinfectants affects the body’s immunity. You may want to open a window while cleaning with these products and/or use a vent fan. Long term exposure to these pollutants may lead to serious health problems such as respiratory distress, heart problems, kidney issues, coughing, sneezing, dizziness and aging.

Aging skin is one of the results when mucous cannot be moved from the body, and these toxins penetrate the blood stream. Then your skin can experience acne and other forms of skin damage.

Air pollution can cause oxygen exhaustion and lead to faster aging.  Having an air purifier in your home is one way to provide protection from a large number of pollutants while helping you live younger longer.

Have a fun and successful day,
