Why You Want To Check Your PH

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

iStock_000007894222XSmallHave you checked out your pH lately? If not, you may want to consider doing so. Why? Well, if you have an acidic pH, you could be ruining your anti-aging program.

Most people don’t realize that the body operates best when it has a slightly alkaline pH level, and it’s important to keep your body a bit on the alkaline side. A neutral pH is 7, but usually the body does best at a bit over 7, which makes it alkaline. Under seven means that your body is acidic. You can get pH paper from a pharmacist and test your own pH with saliva or urine.

Having too much acidity in the body can lead to health problems. It can cause you to gain weight, and it can even make you age even faster. When your body is more acidic, your body isn’t as easily able to absorb the minerals and vitamins in foods and free radical oxidation can also occur – free radicals are known to increase the aging process.

So, what can you do to cut down on the acidity in your body if your pH is a bit on the acidic side? Well, you can start out by eliminating or limiting foods in your diet that are more acidic. This can include foods like grains, meats, alcohol, sweets, and dairy products.

There are foods that you can add to your diet to bring your pH level closer to alkaline as well. Just a few alkaline foods that you may want to add to your diet include asparagus, spinach, green beans, cabbage, lettuce, avocado, garlic, broccoli, kale, and many other vegetables.

As you can see, it may be worth your while to check out your pH. Making sure you lean a bit to the alkaline side can help you ensure you keep your anti-aging plan on track.

Have a fun and successful day,

Use Less Of These Fats In Your Anti-Aging Program

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

iStock_000010364790XSmall Fats. Everyone thinks they’re the same – but they’re not. You see, while some fats are definitely harmful, there are others that are important to the body and the way that it functions. The main key is choosing the fats that are healthy for you.

Everyone needs some fats, which the body uses for energy. Fat helps to transport vitamins that are fat soluble, are important for healthy skin, good function of the immune system, and more. However, the wrong fats could be ruining your health and your anti aging program.

The Good Fats

Fats that are unsaturated, which usually are in the form of oils, help to increase the flexibility and fluidity of cells. There are heart health fats as well, which include olive and canola oils, which are monounsaturated fats.

Omega-3s, which are polyunsaturated fats are healthy fats as well and including them in your diet is important. They can help to reduce the risk of heart problems and can also help beat inflammation, which can cause aging. Foods that contain them include flax seeds, walnuts, and certain types of fish.

To a certain extent, the Omega-6s can be somewhat beneficial. They can be healthy in small amounts; however, most people take in too much of these fats, which can end up promoting inflammation – sabotaging your anti-aging program. You’ll want to cut back on these fats, which are found in products that contain soybean products.

Bad Fats

Both trans fats and saturated fats are considered to be bad fats. They can raise bad cholesterol, and they have been linked to depression and diabetes as well. Trans fats are even known to lower the good cholesterol, which is another problem. For good health, it’s best to cut back on these fats as much as possible. Any fats that don’t help you anti-age simply aren’t a benefit to your wellness program.

Have a fun, safe and successful New Year,
