Your Toothpaste May Do More To Your Body Than Clean Your Teeth

iStock_000000169714XSmall(3)When you brush your teeth, you think you’re cleaning them and you get that clean feeling and fresh breath. You may not know that you’re using toxic toothpaste. While you may believe you’re doing the right thing for your health, you may be harming your body and you may be harming your anti-aging program as well.

There are a variety of common ingredients in toothpaste that may be harmful to your body. Just a few of them include triclosan, fluoride, silica, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and more. You may think you’re okay if you don’t swallow the toothpaste, but the chemicals can be absorbed by the mucus membranes that are in your mouth, since they have 90% absorbency.

Triclosan, one of the ingredients you’ll find in toxic toothpaste is used as an antibacterial. This ingredient is used in pesticides and can cause damage to your lungs, kidneys, and your heart. Ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are often found in toothpastes and ethanol is a carcinogen, while isopropyl alcohol can cause nausea, headaches, and can even be deadly if you ingest too much.

These are just a few of the ingredients that do usually appear on ingredients. The thing is, there are toxic toothpaste ingredients that don’t even show up on the ingredients list. Food dyes, propylene glycol moisturizers, and artificial sweeteners may be included and don’t have to be shown on the ingredients list.

Before you buy toothpaste, think twice. Toxic toothpaste may be sabotaging that great anti-aging plan you’re using, and it could be shortening your life as well. Consider finding a natural alternative that doesn’t use chemicals in it instead of using regular toothpaste.

This Chemical Tricks Your Taste Buds

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

People are usually excited about new breakthroughs in the food research industry.  This chemical tricks your taste buds into thinking that it is tasting salt and sugar. Many world famous companies like Campbell Soup, Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods and even Nestle are considering adding this chemical into their products so that they save on salt and sugar. If this product comes out, your processed food items are going to have about one third less sugar and salt that is normally put in most processed food.  Some may think this is a good thing, but not so fast.

These chemicals are capable of blocking the receptors in the mouth which taste natural flavors like salt, sugar and even MSG. They are going to be added in the processed food under the name of artificial flavors, because artificial flavors are the only food additives which do not need FDA approval. And because they are used in extremely small quantities, the company does not have to get an approval stamp from the food and drug administration. It is going to come under the category of generally considered safe by the FEMA. This test took only 18 months and –3 months on rats — and is supposed to show that the chemical is safe for ingestion.

The reasons why many researchers and experts in food safety as well as  consumer groups have their reservations about this product is because three months is too small a time period to look at the after effects which can be caused by this chemical. That is the reason why more stringent testing needs to be done on this artificial chemical before it is brought into the market.

The company says that it is using this flavor in such minute quantities that they could call it almost invisible, and there is no question of any risk to the health of the consumer. They have an alternate argument that artificial sweeteners are used in a ratio of 200 parts: million parts. According to Senomyx, they are going to add just one part per million.  Considering that you’re an anti-aging who wishes to avoid chemicals and live younger longer, food additives of any kind may not be beneficial to your program.

Even though a company may not need to go through FDA regulations to get approval for this chemical component of future processed foods, one would rather prefer natural salt and natural sugar than these artificial and chemical taste bud suppressors.  Simply anti-aging means eliminating all products that contain unnecessary chemicals, so consider making your own natural fresh soups without these artificial additives!
