Do You Know How Many Genetically Modified Foods You Eat?

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Foods that have undergone a DNA change through genetic engineering are foods that are now different from the original fruit or vegetable. More than 70% of the foods in your local grocery stores are now genetically modified. For example, since strawberries are Summer foods, but with genetic altering, they can be made to grow and survive frost in Winter. Then the market for that food has broadened considerably by modifying its DNA.

Tomatoes are used in a large number of products so to make them last for longer seasons they are genetically modified. The substance that causes tomatoes to rot is removed so new crops come to market with a much longer life.

Do you really care if you are consuming genetically modified foods? Well if you don’t, then read on and decide for yourself. These foods may sound interesting but there are many health problems that can be caused by consuming these foods. One of particular interest is allergic reactions to GMO foods. You may not feel any different when you consume the foods but there may be long term health effects if you consume them constantly.

Many multi-national corporations favor this technology as one of the greatest inventions for humankind. Health conscious individuals, on the other than, don’t share these views. They feel that such foods may be dangerous to humans, the natural food chain and possibly the environment as well.

Various studies and research report that genetically modified foods can be a not-so-good choice for children because of food allergies. When these foods are removed from the child’s diet, the healthier diet brings positive effects on the child’s behavior.

Scientists also report that these foods can cause malnutrition and can prompt deficiencies. Eating a constant diet of genetically modified foods may not be as safe as presented to the general population, and should warrant proper investigation before consumption.

From the anti-aging perspective, why risk the possibility of health problems when organic foods are so plentiful and moderately priced?

Have a fun and successful day,
