Clean Indoor Air Can Help You Age Slowly

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

istock_000006083061xsmall1If you live near or in a city, you are in need of air purification as part of your efforts to live younger longer. The air you intake is more polluted than ever because of second hand smoke, combustion and biological pollutants, household products, lead, radon, asbestos and formaldehyde.

With the push for homes to become even more air tight and well insulated for better energy consumption, there is an increase in the number of pollutants you inhale. Radon gas, formaldehyde emissions from carpet, plywoods and cabinets all contribute to home pollution. People who use nonstick Teflon cookware show higher levels of chemicals in their blood. Often times sheets are treated with a formaldehyde finish so checking to ensure they are untreated is well worth the effort.

Using too many disinfectants affects the body’s immunity. You may want to open a window while cleaning with these products and/or use a vent fan. Long term exposure to these pollutants may lead to serious health problems such as respiratory distress, heart problems, kidney issues, coughing, sneezing, dizziness and aging.

Aging skin is one of the results when mucous cannot be moved from the body, and these toxins penetrate the blood stream. Then your skin can experience acne and other forms of skin damage.

Air pollution can cause oxygen exhaustion and lead to faster aging.  Having an air purifier in your home is one way to provide protection from a large number of pollutants while helping you live younger longer.

Why Your Mattress May Be Causing You To Age Faster

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Want to stop aging “anti aging” in its tracks? Start looking at your mattress. While you probably already know that there are environmental toxins all around you, you probably don’t really expect to have them in your home. The problem is that there are many household toxins that you are exposed to every day. Some are in cleaners, some in perfumes and body products, and yes, some are in your mattress.

Believe it or not, many mattresses are actually required by the law to have these chemicals in them, which means chemical exposure occurs to you whenever you sleep on your mattress.  Many of the chemicals used are actually flame retardants, and while they’ll keep you from going up in flames, they aren’t great for you to breathe in.  Just a few of the chemicals that are often found in mattresses include formaldehyde, boric acid, decabromodiphenyl oxide, zinc borate, altimony trioxide, melamine, and more.

So what exactly is the danger of these chemicals that are in your mattress?  Well, some of the chemicals can cause behavioral alterations long term, and other health problems can occur.  One of the main problems is that you are breathing in these environmental toxins each night as you sleep, and they are especially concentrated when you have a new mattress.

As you breathe in these toxins, they go into your bloodstream.  Toxins can build up in the body and cause weight gain, medical problems, and they can even make you start aging faster.  If you want to avoid aging, it’s time to do something about the mattress that you are sleeping on.  In some cases you may be able to have a doctor write a prescription for a bed that is chemical free.  There is more of a movement to organic, chemical free beds today as well as the foods you eat.

Have a fun and successful day,
