Puffy Eyes: Home Remedies That Work

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Part 1 of 2 parts

Do you have puffy eyes because of aging, stress, smoking, drinking or just about anything else? Don’t despair – help is here and it’s free! The four easy home remedies below are free, as well as easy to do and will go a long way in reducing your puffy eyes.

1. Green or black tea. Caffeinated teas help constrict blood vessels and diminish swelling (due to aging, smoking, stress, etc), while herbal teas (especially chamomile) contain anti-irritants that soothe and reduce puffiness.

Directions: Steep two tea bags of your choice in hot water for four to five minutes. Let them cool down until they feel comfortably warm to touch. Lie down and close your eyes. Now put one tea bag over each eye. Cover them with a soft cloth. In hot weather, place the boiled tea bags in your fridge and apply to eyes when you need a cool, refreshing, de-puffing experience.

2. Spoons. If you’re in need of an ultra-quick reduction of your puffy eyes, tea spoons, believe it or not, work amazingly.

Directions: Place four to six spoons in the refrigerator. Lie down, close your eyes, and place a spoon on both eyes. As the spoons warm, replace them with cold ones from the fridge.

3. Cucumbers. This is the best-known puffy eye reduction remedy, well-known among supermodels as a guaranteed way to reduce puffiness right before a photo-shoot. The cucumber’s astringent qualities cause blood vessels to constrict, thereby diminishing puffy eyes.

Directions: Lie down, close your eyes and put a thin slice over each eye. Relax for 5 to 10 minutes while the cucumbers work their wonders.

4. Egg whites. Here’s a real souffl for the face with some amazing age-defying benefits. This one’s wonderful for reducing crow’s feet as well!

Directions: Beat an egg white until it nearly forms soft peaks, and apply with a brush or soft cloth around your eye, along your cheekbone and outer eye area. Leave on for 10 minutes. Remove by spritzing the egg white with water and then use cold water on a cotton ball or washcloth to gently remove.

What To Eat To Get Younger Skin

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Society has been so obsessed with outer appearances. Today, it isn’t just enough for you to be healthy or be fit, you need to look younger as well. This is probably the result of magazines and television shows parading celebrities that look eternally young. This trend isn’t all negative. What you look in the outside will also reflect the state of your insides. If you are looking vibrant then that would mean that you have a healthy system as well. Aging is caused by free radicals that wreak havoc in your system.

But you don’t have to despair. Antioxidants hamper the action of free radicals and such substances are found naturally in fruits and vegetables. You can actually eat you way to vibrant skin.

Be “Berry” Beautiful

Studies have shown that berries, plums and canteloupes contain more antioxidants as compared to other fruits. That is why munching on strawberries will get you younger looking skin a lot faster than, say, bananas. You don’t have to revamp your entire diet to accommodate berries.

You can do as little as to add frozen berries to your cereals or granola or probably make a strawberry smoothie for lunch (skip on the sugar if you can).

The Big C

Vitamin C is required in order for you to have healthy-looking skin, nails and hair. The vitamin is an absolute must if you want to look refreshingly glowing. A great source of Vitamin C is oranges. If you like to eat oranges as they are, you can trade in your current snack treat for a piece.

Tip # 3

As long as you don’t eat six eggs for breakfast, you’ll be able to ward off the excess cholesterol and the under eye circles as well. Eggs are a great source of iron which is required by our red blood cells for oxygen take-up. When you have enough oxygen being transported by your vessels, your skin will in turn have a brighter glow and you can sport that natural blush minus the eye bags.
