The Benefits Of A Professional Manicure And Pedicure

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Your hands are constantly on show, and in summer, your feet are too. Neat, well-cared for nails add immeasurably to the appearance of your hands and feet, whether you are male or female. Treating yourself to a manicure and pedicure regularly keeps your hands, feet and nails in optimum condition.

Most manicures and pedicures include exfoliation of the dead skin cells on your hands and feet to improve the appearance and stimulate regeneration. A pumice stone is used to remove dead skin and calluses from the feet, often the cause of aches and pains when standing for long periods of time. There is a lot more to a manicure and pedicure at a salon than just a coat of polish!

Moisturisers and special products to treat cuticles are massaged into the hand, arm, foot and lower leg, hydrating them and stimulating blood flow. The massage can also help to relieve aches and pains from arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, and is very relaxing.

Fungal nail infections are easy to deal with if they are spotted early and your manicurist will be able to advise you on treatment if you appear to be susceptible. Because some nail diseases are highly infectious, you may have to seek medical treatment before you can have a manicure and pedicure. Some diseases will need professional medical advice and medicine.

Your manicure will continue with your nails being cleaned, buffed, trimmed and shaped. You can choose the length and shape you prefer. If you are having nail polish applied, you will then choose a colour from the salon’s selection, or you can bring your own. A French manicure always looks fabulous when it is done at the salon. You will get a base coat, two coats of polish and a top coat. Often a treatment, such as cuticle oil, is added after the last coat of polish to help maintain the condition of the nails and cuticles. You should try not to bump or smudge the nails for at least an hour after you have had them done.

With normal wear and tear, you can expect a manicure to last 2 to 3 weeks and a pedicure for up to 5 weeks. Although you may feel that it is an added expense for something you can do yourself, the additional attention to detail and extra treatments that a salon offers not only makes your nails look super, it improves the appearance of your hands and feet as well. You will be proud of your hands and feet, showing them off at every opportunity.

You may want a manicure and pedicure for a special occasions, or for a summer holiday where your feet and hands are definitely going to be on show. Some salons offer a mobile service, where the manicurist will come to your home or office to perform the treatments. This can be especially useful for business executives who may have a function to attend but no time to get to a salon, fighting traffic and parking scarcity on the way. Cars are not very nail-friendly, so eliminating the need to drive can help to keep your nails looking great for longer.

Try as you might, a home manicure is unlikely to look as good or last as long as a professional manicure and pedicure. Professionally applied, using superior products, salons offer a superb service that not only gives you great looking hands, feet and nails, it also gives you a relaxing opportunity to be pampered.

Anti Aging Skincare – Some Useful Tips

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

by James Lunden

Healthy skin has a smooth, silky appearance and it’s sole purpose is to protect our body from sickness and infection. Youthful skin tone is also a sign of health and is something everyone notices when we’re looking at each other. Anti aging skincare is designed to help re-energize skin and give it back the elasticity that time often takes away as we age.

Of course it would be so much easier if we could all just sit back and never worry about how we look, but for most of us looking good means feeling good — the two go hand in hand. When researching which anti aging skincare treatment you wish to use: Make sure it contains a good dose of antioxidants to help oxygenate your skin cells, Retinol A to accelerate healing, and a good moisturizer to prevent dry skin.

Why Me?

A lot of people wonder why their skin has succumbed to age, when their neighbor of the same age looks ten years younger. This can be for a number of reasons.

1) Your lifestyle choices may have accelerated the aging of your skin. E.g., tobacco use, certain prescription medications, not drinking enough water, over-exposure to the sun or tanning beds, poor diet, excess alcohol consumption — will all cause your skin (and body) to age faster than what is genetically predetermined.

2) Your neighbors may possibly be using anti aging skincare themselves. We all have our private beauty secrets, that we would never tell anyone about. Some people prefer to pretend their look is 100% natural, while secretly they have an entire treasure chest of products at home, to keep them looking their best.

It’s Never Too Late

It’s never too late to get started with anti aging skincare treatments. At the same time, it’s never too early either. If you’re over 30 years old, start using a good product now, to prevent wrinkles and fine lines. If you already have a few signs of aging on your face, make sure your lifestyle choices aren’t hurting your skin and find a quality anti aging product to stop nature in its tracks.
